3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 pound 95% lean ground beef
8 ounces ground pork
Nonstick cooking spray
6 1/2- to 3/4-inch slices peeled fresh or canned pineapple
6 1/2-inch slices red onion
6 whole wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted
1/2 cup snow pea pods, trimmed and halved lengthwise
- In a very large bowl combine the first four ingredients (through crushed red pepper). Add ground beef and pork; mix well. Shape into six 1/2-inch-thick patties.
- Coat a grill pan with cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat. Add pineapple and red onion; cook 4 to 6 minutes or until light brown, turning once. Remove from pan. Add patties to grill pan; cook 10 to 13 minutes or until done (160 degrees F), turning once.
- Serve burgers in buns with pineapple, red onion, and pea pods.
